Gomier’s Vegan Vegetarian Seafood Restaurant

“As a child and young boy, I always wanted to be a medical doctor”, says the colourful Ignatious Longville, sitting in his PG restaurant overlooking the Bay of Honduras. “The system, however, never allowed me a scholarship so I ended up in St. Lucia, where I helped set up a restaurant and health food store. I always wanted to promote health (that’s why I wanted to become doctor) and thought that I could as well do that by using good food as a medicine to promote health and wellness (which is a Garifuna concept and belief system).

When I moved to Belize and Punta Gorda, I started my own restaurant which was thus based on healthy foods and ingredients. At first, it wasn’t very popular and there was only one client buying my home-made tofu but gradually, people came around …

I now cook vegan, vegetarian and seafood dishes and am very mindful of the ingredients I use. That guarantees a tasty, and healthy, meal!”

I have been on a plant-based diet for more than 17 years and I have lived off the grid for 7 years. I discuss my personal experience and culinary based teachings with customers who desire to know more. I also offer various classes including tofu making, vegan, vegetarian and seafood meal planning. I believe our bodies are made of what we eat, and our health is our wealth.

I have been instrumental in helping people change to vegetarian lifestyles. There was an instance I had a group composed of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian people. The entire group enjoyed vegetarian food so much that a few went back home and converted to a vegetarian lifestyle. The sentiment was they did not know vegetarian eating could be so good”.
