The Chiac family invites you, literally, into their home to experience the old Maya culture in a fun and interactive way. It is a family cultural immersion, looking at typical and traditional Maya handcrafts and utensils that have remained unchanged over the years. You can learn to weave Maya baskets from jippy jappa, learn to strip jungle vines to make rope, which in turn makes the local hammocks and have a go at weaving the beautiful Maya colors to make the traditional hammocks.
Locals in the village buy and use hammocks and other utensils so it’s a very authentic, non commercial experience. All family members are active in the enterprise and take guests on a tour around the house and gardens.
